About the Organisation
Our client is a leading global research and technology organisation dedicated to solving humanity’s biggest challenges. Through advances in data science, cloud computing, and AI, they are driving innovation across health, sustainability, and energy systems, transforming research into real-world solutions.
The Role
We are seeking a Data Engineer to help design, build, and support the cloud-based data platform that underpins a major scientific and analytics initiative. You’ll work on cutting-edge data engineering challenges — developing scalable data pipelines, optimizing data storage and access, and contributing to advanced analytics and AI-driven products.
This is a hands-on role suited to a technically skilled engineer who is eager to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain high-performance data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery.
- Work with cloud-based architectures to ensure data is scalable, secure, and reliable.
- Support the curation and integration of complex data types for research and analytics.
- Implement and monitor workflows using orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable).
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to make data accessible and usable for analysis and AI models.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines and ETL processes using Python and SQL.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Understanding of data lakes, lakehouses, and modern data architectures (e.g., Iceberg, Parquet).
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, etc.).
- Knowledge of data modeling and database systems (relational and/or NoSQL).
- Curious, detail-oriented, and eager to explore new technologies.
- Strong communicator and collaborator with a proactive mindset.
Desirable
- Exposure to real-time data processing or streaming tools (Kafka, Kinesis).
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Basic understanding of scientific or healthcare data.
- Experience with Git and CI/CD workflows.
